My Story

Where it began

My previous work experience has always been ‘people based’, my first job was in a Bank, I then trained as a Nurse and later needed to find a job that fitted in with my young family and other caring commitments, so I found myself working in Early Years and progressed to a Children’s Centre management role.

My counselling journey started later in life, I completed an Introduction to Counselling skills course to enhance my managerial skills, and I enjoyed the course so much I enrolled onto the next level, and the next!

Following redundancy and some time out to reflect on whether becoming a counsellor was right for me I enrolled onto the Foundation Degree that would enable me to become fully qualified.

The training to be a counsellor is long and challenging, there is a lot of reflection on your own life, your relationships and your core beliefs. Having my own personal therapy showed me the true power of the counselling process, it isn’t always easy and sometimes you don’t want to go but the benefits are worth the hard work!

I now feel more content with myself as a person, and more accepting of the difficulties I have experienced over the years.

My particular areas of interest are: how childhood experiences impact our lives and later relationships; the complexities of neurodiversity – especially the challenges faced by those diagnosed later in life; and loss and grief – especially pregnancy and baby loss, which is very prevalent but very hidden in our society.
